Creative people working independently, outside the safety of an institution, have few structures of support within which to find assistance and resources. We know that unmet basic needs, like health coverage or financial or legal assistance, lessen the likelihood of a creative person's success and hinder their ability to sustain their livelihood on their creative work.

We believe that those living in places where support systems are weak face a choice -- to either focus away from their creative work or relocate to where their needs can be met.
